Noreen Nasim is a British Asian bestselling author, speaker and creator of writing experiences rooted in identity, memory and belonging. Her debut memoir, Expelled from Uganda, tells the story of her father's expulsion from Uganda in 1972, one of 80,000 Asian families displaced by Idi Amin's regime.
Writing transformed the course of her own life. After 15 years as a teacher and lecturer, she stepped away from education to build a creative career centred on stories, identity and human connection. Since then, Noreen has spoken on the TEDx stage, appeared on ITV Yorkshire and TRT World News, and created a series of intimate writing experiences for anyone carrying a story they haven't yet found the words for. She works with writers, organisations and literary spaces to help people find their voice, explore their identity and tell the stories that matter most.
Based in Sheffield. Writing with people everywhere.
About Noreen
Delivering a TEDx talk was a huge honour for Noreen, where she shared how her journey as a positive disruptor was shaped by her father’s resilience. Expelled from Uganda in 1972 by Idi Amin, he was forced to rebuild his life from scratch, an experience that became the foundation of her own outlook on life.
His ability to adapt, persevere and move forward through uncertainty taught Noreen the importance of embracing change with courage and purpose. Through her work and storytelling, she encourages others to recognise that while heritage can shape us, it does not have to limit us. Instead, it can empower us to create our own path with intention.
